Hey pals – my brand new single is rolling out across the internets today and I’d love for you to take a listen.
I’ve worked my little bowtie-wearing-butt off for this one. Hours of recording in my basement. Making mistakes. Learning. Making more mistakes. Finally, emerging victorious and bloodied with a hard-won song of faith and doubt to be proud of.
I want to thank Smokey Fennell for playing pedal steel on this track. Those moans and wails take this tune over the top for me. He channels something with his playing and I’m lucky to have that something in full force here.
This song comes from a deep well that I’ll write more about here soon. For now, please enjoy responsibly wherever you get your music. Even right here on this site.
Here are the lyrics.
I Want To Be Known
Von Bieker, 2019
You’re a stone-faced player
With a perfect hand
I used to be a good prayer,
Used to know your plan
Yeah I could learn to trust and leave it all alone
But I want to know you and I want to be known
You say love my neighbour as I love myself
I guess that’s the place where I could use a little help
Cos’ there’s a deep dark grave where I buried my heart
And I’d raise it up but I don’t know where to start
Well I could walk away and leave it all alone
Except that I want to know you and I want to be known
Oh I should learn to trust and leave it all alone
Except that I want to know you and I want to be known
Oh I want to know you and I want to be known
Same snakes in the garden just different names
If there was a garden and somebody to blame
And all the lines are blurring into a wash of gray
If everything is true then I’m afraid I’ve lost my way
I guess that I could doubt and leave it all alone
Except that I want to know you and I want to be known
Oh I could walk away and leave it all alone
Except that I want to know you and I want to be known
Oh I want to know you and I want to be known
