Today’s Listen Local pick – Evergreen – just hit a major milestone on Spotify. They’ve been included on one of the major Spotify-curated playlists, Folk and Friends.
Their selected track, A Beautiful View, is radio-ready folk-pop tune with tight, dry drums and upfront vintage-slap vocals from the band’s sole female, Victoria King.
On other tracks, male vocals and long reverbs play a major role, broadening out the rick sonic palate with three more members (Bryson Huculak, Peter Macfarlane and David Shoults).
Mix in some ethereal guitars and melodies remniscent of the Great Lake Swimmers and we’ve got yet another great Edmonton band you should not miss live. I’ll certainly be watching for their next gig.
Evergreen might just be good for the planet, too. They began as a group of U of A Environmental Engineering students and currently champion environmental causes like Edmonton’s Root for Trees (1).
Their first full length album, Whole, just released last week. Recorded at Edmonton’s Royal Studios, it’s a great sounding record. Right now I’m really digging the track The End of the World.
Given their streaming numbers on Spotify, it seems I’m late to the party. Edmonton’s music scene just keeps getting better.
